Report an Error

Email corrections@ustaxgauge.com with the page URL and what is wrong. If you can point at the state document that says otherwise, we can usually fix it the same day.

What to include

  • · The URL of the page, and the tax year it shows.
  • · The figure you believe is wrong, and what you believe it should be.
  • · A link to the source that supports it, if you have one — a state revenue department page, an instruction booklet, or the bill number.

You do not need a source to report something. "This does not match what my state sent me" is a perfectly good report, and we will go and check.

What we do with it

  1. 1We check the claim against the state’s own primary source — the revenue department first, then the statute.
  2. 2If the figure is wrong, we correct the underlying data file, which corrects every page that uses it: the state page, the rankings, the comparisons, the calculator and the national table all recompute from the same record.
  3. 3If the figure was right but unclear, we improve the wording rather than leave you to work it out.
  4. 4If a state has changed its law and we had not caught it, we add the change to that year’s tax changes page with the bill citation.
  5. 5If we cannot confirm either version, we downgrade the record’s confidence and say so on the page rather than pick a side.

What we will not do

Known gaps

We publish our own limitations rather than waiting to be caught. The methodology lists everything the calculator does not model, and each state page lists that state's specific gaps. Jurisdictions we could not verify for the current tax year are named on the methodology page and excluded from every ranking.
