Privacy Policy

The calculator and comparison tool run entirely on your device. The tax data is delivered with the page and the arithmetic happens in your browser. Your income, filing status and number of dependents never leave it.

The comparison tool writes your selections into the address bar so you can share or bookmark a specific comparison. That happens locally; nothing is transmitted because you changed a field.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful. It records standard web analytics data — pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and how you arrived. IP anonymisation is enabled.

We also record which interactions happen: that a state was selected, a calculation was run, a comparison was created, a source link was clicked, a table was sorted, a tax year was changed. An income figure is never sent as a value. Where a calculation event needs any sense of scale, the income is converted into a broad band before anything is dispatched, so the event describes behaviour rather than finances.

Analytics loads only on the live production site. It does not run in development or preview builds. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal or you use a content blocker, the site works exactly the same way.

We set no cookies of our own. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to distinguish sessions; you can block them without affecting the site. Where the site remembers a preference, it uses your browser's local storage, which stays on your device and is never readable by us.

The site is a set of static files served by our hosting provider, which keeps standard server logs. Outbound links to state revenue departments and the IRS take you to sites with their own privacy practices, which we do not control. We embed no advertising, no trackers beyond the analytics described above, no social widgets and no third-party fonts.

Because we hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete. If you have a privacy question, email corrections@ustaxgauge.com.
